Our Learning Journey

 

 The children have been full of energy this week after their half term. We have really enjoyed finding out what everyone got up to over the holidays. 

There has been a magical theme running through our classroom this week where the children have been making wands, potions and magic spells. The children have been really eager to write their magic spells and it has been lovely to see them using their phonic knowledge when writing their list of words. 

In maths this week the children have been learning about estimating. We have talked about what estimating means and guessed amounts of objects in different containers. The children explored this further at our Estimation Station in the classroom.

The children have been really excited about the new equipment in our playground, they have particularly enjoyed the new roundabout and are learning to take turns.

Mandarin

This week, students learnt the mandarin vocabulary for shapes. They were taught how to say circle, square and triangle. They also learnt to trace the shape through worksheets to consolidate their learning. Online flashcards will be introduced in the next Weekly Roundup Email.

Physical Education

In PE the children have been learning how to play tag games and have learnt how they can avoid opponents in different directions. In swimming, the children are continuing to make progress towards their individual targets. Some children have now started to learn how to breath accordingly with front crawl technique.

Music

This week all Reception students were formatively assessed using the three aspects of the Juilliard Learner Profile - ways of being, thinking and doing. This included a focus on collaboration, curiosity and perception.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

Estimation Activity at home 

  1. Find an empty container/jar. 
  2. Find different objects that can fit into your jar/container e.g buttons, Lego, marbles, cars, pasta, cotton balls, 
  3. Fill your container. 
  4. Estimate (guess) how many objects are in your container. 
  5. Take them out and count to find to correct answer. 
  6. Compare your estimate/guess and the actual answer. 

- You may do this with lots of different objects. 

Phonics at home 

Please continue to revise the sounds and tricky words that were sent home before the holidays. New sounds and words will be sent again at the end of term. 

For Show and Tell next Friday please can you bring in either a picture of your favourite food or empty packaging of your favourite food. Next week, we will be discussing what we have to do to stay fit and healthy.
