    DCIS Proms 2016

14th October 2016

This week in their English lessons, the children have been exploring poetry to build on their understanding of descriptive language. They have read different poems about our senses and have identified the adjectives and descriptive phrases within them as well as exploring the structure of each poem. The children then went on to use their own senses to write their own descriptive poems.

This week the children have been learning about 3D shapes. They learnt the names, sorted the shapes and learnt about the properties of 3D shapes. They found 3D shapes in everyday objects and had fun making pictures and patterns with 3D shapes. We also used clues to help us identify "mystery" 3D shapes.

Project Work

This week the children have concluded ‘The Magic Toymaker’ project by creating their own toys.  Some children created a range of different puppets whilst others chose to create board games.  The children designed, created and tested their toys and presented these to children in Year 1.  Next term, the children will start their new project ‘Let’s Celebrate’, which will include an excursion to Centre Stage.

This week, the children continued to learn the topic of family members. Students were encouraged to engage in an extended role play conversation, exchanging; greetings, names, age, family members and gender. Additionally, the children learnt to recognise key words without the support of pinyin through a variety of language games.  They also listened to a famous story titled “My Dad” & “My Mum” by Anthony Browne.

This week, the children have been combining the move commands with an action.  For example; the bee has to collect the nectar and move to the honeycombs to make the honey.

Physical Education

This week, the children have been working on starting, stopping, and changing direction as they continue to show a stronger understanding of when to chase and evade others. In swimming, the children have been practising their freestyle arm pull, focusing on just one single arm as they use their kickboard for support.

This week, the children have explored melody.  They have learned that sounds can be higher or lower in pitch and they have practised to follow these changes accordingly using movement and on the keyboards. They have also continued to explore the C major scale and the song Mary had a little lamb.

The children have received their new spellings this week.
