    DCIS Proms 2016

30th September 2016

In English this week, the focus of the children's learning has been vocabulary extension. The children began by looking at antonyms for a range of adjectives. The children continued to look at adjectives and their use in describing both a character's appearance and personality. From here the children moved on to consider synonyms and being more careful when selecting words. Finally, the children applied their learning to describe settings for a story.

In Maths this week the children have been learning about measurement. They have compared different lengths and ordered them. They have measured with non-standard measures such as cubes and using their hand length.

Project Work

This week, the children continued their project, ‘The Magic Toymaker’. They looked at toys from the past and considered toys their parents played with. They compared new toys and old toys and sorted toys according to the materials from which they are made.

This week, the children continued to revise the theme "Me and My body". The focus was on sentence structure using descriptive words "big" and "small". They learnt how to express their physical appearance in sentences through verbal and written activities. Please refer to the link for the flashcards containing vocabulary words and key grammar structure.

Children have started their journey on code.org. We learnt how to sign in using a secret picture so all progress in tracked and assessed. Over the next few weeks, the children will complete puzzles with angry birds and bees collecting nectar and making honey.

Physical Education

In lessons this week, the children have demonstrated increased confidence when using a bat and a ball whilst working individually and with a partner. In Swimming, the children have been continuing to work on their flutter kick as well as practising the correct freestyle arm technique.

In Music this week, Y1 have continued to work on keyboard skills. The children have practised playing a C major scale using the correct fingering. Using numbers assigned to each finger, some children were able to play very simple melodies. They have listened to the second bourree in J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite n. 3.

Please check your child’s folder for this week’s homework.
