    DCIS Proms 2016

9th December 2016

In English this week, the children have watched the story of the Snowman.  They then used a range of adjectives to describe the Snowman.  They also recalled the story of the Snowman using past tense verbs taught last week.  The children then created an invitation to invite a friend to the Snowman party.

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about time and how to tell the time on a clock including o’clock and half past.  They looked at analogue and digital clocks and made their own clock.  They learnt that a minute has 60 seconds and an hour has 60 minutes. They tested each other by showing a range of different times on a clock.

Project Work

In Project Work this week, the children have been continuing with their celebration project and creating a number of crafts.  They have been designing items for their party including; hats, decorations and food items.  The children have started to make some of these items and will continue this work next week.

This week, the children continued to extend their learning of words and sentence structure related to ‘My Home’. The students brainstormed ideas and then created a mini booklet on their ideal home.  They read their booklet to one another where they applied the words and sentence structures learnt. Finally, the children were involved in peer assessment and self-reflection of their learning.  The children have been practising the Mandarin song “Merry Christmas” for the Christmas concert.

Pupils continued with 'The Foos' hour of code.  They have continued coding a character to complete levels.

Physical Education

This week in PE, the children have been exploring the correct striking technique by hitting a ball at a target as well as creating their own targets to hit.  In swimming, the children have been developing a continual arm action using both arms in their backstroke.

This week the children have continued to practise playing two chords: C major and G major with one and two hands. They have begun to change the chord in time, whilst the teacher sings or plays the melody.  Our next step is to put together melody and harmony.

The children have received their new spellings this week.
