    DCIS Proms 2016

English

This week we have been recapping a lot of the skills we have learnt this term. This has included using capital letters and full stops accurately and using conjunctions within our sentences to extend them. We also had a visit from some Year 6 classes who helped us to think of interesting adjectives for a scene and showed us how to use a thesaurus to find more ambitious words.

Maths

Our Maths work has been focusing on recapping methods for addition and subtraction and using our knowledge of place value to help us solve problems. We have also revised the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes and have located and described them to our partners.

Project Work

We have been busy making a clay model of the plant we designed last week. This involved shaping the clay into the correct shapes and using tools to add details to our sculpture. After this, we painted our models as carefully as we could using different shades to make them more realistic. Lastly, we wrote a small information plaque for our new plant and explained how it lives in its habitat so successfully.

Mandarin

This week the students had consolidation on shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. They learnt the sentence structures and vocabulary to ask and answer questions about shapes through a story. They learnt to write characters of shapes. Computing

Pupils have started using Kodable, an online piece of software that teaches them about moving an object to collect coins.

Physical Education

Swimming lessons have developed the swimmer confidence on the diving blocks. The pupils have also continued to improve their backstroke technique over either a length or a width of the pool

This PE session has seen the pupils being involved in devising their own target game. They have been able to use various pieces of equipment to use to create their scenario.

Music

This week in Year 2 music, students used solfège (Do, Re, Me, etc.) to learn the difference between scales, arpeggios and chords. Attention was given to proper keyboard fingering when practising each pattern (e.g. finding the C key first).

Homework

This week we would like children to practice their written method for addition in their homework. We have given them some sums to complete using a given method. If they are unsure about how to do the method please scan the QR code to allow them to watch a demonstration video.
