    DCIS Proms 2016

14th October 2016

This week the children have been following written instructions to make their own Deepavali tea light holders. Following that they wrote their own set of instructions trying to include a title, equipment list, numbered points, time connectives, imperative verbs and adverbs.

In Maths, the children have been naming a range of 3D shapes and identifying their properties. Once they understood what a vertex, face and an edge were and could locate them, they used these properties to sort the shapes into Venn or Carroll diagrams.

Project Work

Our project work this week has been on focused on researching how plants and animals are adapted to their habitats. The children used a range of books and the internet to research a plant and an animal from three different regions of the world, noting down any adaptations that they found out.

This week, students learnt to extend on the topic of numbers this week students revised numbers and learnt to perform simple addition and subtraction sums using numbers and vocabulary such as “加” (add), “减” (subtract), “等于” (equal to) and sentence structures “二加三等于五” (2+3=5); “八减四等于四”(8-4=4) etc.

We have been combining the move commands with an action this week. The bee has to collect the nectar and move to the honeycombs to make the honey.

Physical Education

Swimming - The pupils are continuing to develop their freestyle arms and backstroke. They have focused on three words `big circle` and `ears` to guide their backstroke arm action.

PE - The pupils are making decisions about when to steal the eggs from the nest in their tag games without being caught by the Myots taggers.

Students performed an action-song from their new music teacher's (Mr Irving's) home country of New Zealand; this was part of a diagnostic lesson which also looked at students' understanding of basic notation and keyboard skills.

There has been no Maths homework set to allow you to enjoy your half term. Only the spellings have been set for over the half term, in line with the school homework policy.
