17th February 2017

In English, the children have been preparing for UN day through research of their class country, Mexico. They have been using secondary sources of information to find answers to questions as well as ask some of their own questions. They then used this to write a descriptive paragraph which has finally been presented as a fact file. The children were excited to show all of this hard work during UN day in our tent.

This week our Maths topic has been subtraction. The children have been finding missing numbers using their knowledge of number bonds to help them. We used some fun kagan games to support our learning. They also used a number line to support them subtracting. They were able to use their knowledge to work on a carousel of activities linked to the learning this week.

Project Work

Within project work, the children have been creating their own shophouses. They gained inspiration from their trip to URA last week to help them plan and design their own building using an art deco theme.  Firstly, the children selected an appropriate pastel colour as a base and then got to work mixed them to get the correct shade. Children created a mood board in Maths last week to help them decide on doors, roofing and window for their shophouses.

This week the students consolidated their learning about telling the time by half hours and minutes. They continued to practice asking and answering questions about time by referring to the link for the flashcards regarding time: https://quizlet.com/_30aezv

The students were beginning to form questions and answers using the proper sentence structures.

The children were celebrating UN Day and so did not have computing this week.

Physical Education

This week the pupils have had the opportunity to practice all three elements of Athletics; jumping, throwing and running. They have been awarded points for each attempt as well as collecting gold medals if they managed to throw or jump past the ‘gold’ spot.

The pupils have continued to work on their breaststroke arm and leg technique. Before the session ended they were all given the opportunity to swim through and between the hoops and yellow seaweed.

This week, Year 2 students learned how changing timbre and instruments helps to change the mood in Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring'.

There are no homework or spelling words this week due to our February half term break.
