9th December 2016

We turned our attention to instructions this week. Children looked at a variety of ways that instructions can be delivered; orally, with multimedia and written instructions. We discovered that following instructions needs a lot of concentration. On Thursday we tried our hand at following written instructions to create some fun Christmas themed crafts, which proved quite tricky. In an attempt to help others we wrote our own version of the instructions to make them clearer. To support our writing we thought about imperative verbs and adverbs this week and how to use them effectively.

This week, we have been looking at collecting and presenting data in different ways. We have also revised how we interpret data from tables, pictograms and charts. We ended the week creating our own charts and generating questions about them to show our understanding.

Project Work

This week, we continued to explore our understanding of how the change in the earth’s orbit and tilt can affect seasonality in the northern and southern hemisphere. We showed our understanding of seasons through creative expression, using different painting techniques.

This week, students finished the topic of daily routine, started the termly culture topic – Panda. In the culture lessons, we did many activities, such as watched the videos, coloured pictures, panda puppet, drew pictures, paper folding about the panda.

In Computing this week we have been discussing the impact that giant companies such as Apple and Google have had on the computer industry. We have also been testing our knowledge of hardware devices. Students have followed this by developing and furthering their coding skills.

Physical Education

As I was in Cambodia this week, Mr Johnston stepped in to take 3KN for Netball. During netball, pupils have been looking at the footwork rule and catching the ball in flight. In swimming, pupils have been practising backstroke starts.

This week in Year 3 music, students collaboratively re-wrote the lyrics to Gershwin's 'They Can't Take That Away from Me', and considered how the meaning and feel of the song changed with the lyrics. This concluded our short study of the Song as its own medium in music.

This week there will be no MyiMaths, we are continuing to experience problems with the MyiMaths site and are in contact with the administrator to try to rectify the issue. We will endeavor to have this rectified as soon as possible. In the meantime please encourage your child to use Skoolbo.

There will be no homework set over the Christmas break, spelling will re-commence in January. Children will be reassessed and supported in the most appropriate group for them.
