26th August 2016

In English this week, we have been reading the book ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. It was exciting to focus on the pictures of the forest and look for hidden clues about the characters of the story. We used adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe the appearance and personality of a character. After revising the punctuation used in speech, we applied this to our own writing. We are really looking forward to continuing our learning with this book next week.

In maths, we have been focusing on Place Value. We have been writing numbers in figures and in words. We ordered numbers by working out which one has the biggest or smallest value and using symbols to show ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’.

Project Work

This week, the children have been looking at how we learn, how we can improve our learning and how we can be better prepared for the challenges ahead of us. This has involved looking at what makes a ‘good learner’, how different people learn in different ways and the importance of practice when learning a skill. We will continue this unit next week, looking at how the brain works and how to make connections between our learning.

This week, the students engaged in the Mandarin revision programme. They revised what they have learned last term. Please refer to the link below to revise all the learnt vocabulary.

Computing will start next week.

Physical Education

In PE lessons this week, pupils have been shown and have undertaken the cross country course that will be used during the cross country unit. During swimming, the children have been enjoying getting some general lengths and widths of freestyle in after the summer break.

This week, we introduced ourselves. House rules were set. The children learned one monophonic non-sensical spoken song and one canonic syllabic modal song.

Homework starts next week.
