English

This week, the children participated in some informal assessments in reading and grammar which will be used to inform the next steps for Term 2.

Maths

This week, the children participated in some informal assessments in number, shape and fractions which will be used to inform the next steps for Term 2.

Project Work

In Project Work, the children learnt about the Persian War and created a storyboard to show their understanding of events and the impact they had.  They also learnt about Greek architecture and designed their own temples and started to research Greek theatre with a view to designing their own mask.

Mandarin

This week we talked about the weather and temperature in some cities such as Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai and London. We continued to learn some vocabulary of weather condition such as rainy, windy and cloudy. We also applied the new vocabulary in sentences to describe the weather conditions in different cities.

Computing

In computing this week, students have been working collaboratively to solve a number of challenging puzzles and tasks. The tasks have been based around a wide variety of puzzles, each varying in difficulty.  Students took part in a quiz to check their understanding about computer key words.

Physical Education

In PE lessons this week, pupils have been undertaking new activities.

During football, the pupils have focused on basic control and dribbling. In hockey, we have been focused on basic passing.

Music

This week we reinforced ways in which melodic phrases can be varied by adapting musical elements in a number of ways. By modelling each phrase of one of Juilliard’s core works, Blue Monk, students are assimilating Thelonious Monk’s use of the blues scale to create balanced phrases.

Design & Technology

This week in Design and Technology, the children applyed their measuring and sawing skills to independently mark-out and safely cut the dowel for their wall hook.  They understand the importance of measuring accurately and to be gentle with the materials as there is considerable mechanical advantage in the bench vises. They have also quality checked and assembled their projects, in preparation for the application of a varnish finish.
