11th November 2016

The children have been working on explanation texts this week. They have researched a topic of their choice and have created an explanation text based on this. The children have also taken part in a buddy writing session with the children in Year 2 which they thoroughly enjoyed.

This week in maths we have been revising the topics we covered last half term in preparation for our assessment week next week.

Project Work

In Project this week we have begun our science investigation training. To complete the training we will be observed by our teacher in the following areas:

  1. Finding the most appropriate way to investigate challenges - thinking about what experiment will give us the results we need
  2. Showing we have made systematic, accurate observations and measurements
  3. Showing we have included appropriate ways to improve the reliability of our tests
  4. Drawing conclusions based on our evidence
  5. Be able to write up experiments using appropriate scientific words

Our main focus this week has been to develop our understanding of scientific language, carry out basic experiments and to record evidence and results.

This week, the structure of time xx点xx分has been consolidated. An alternative way to indicate quarters and half an hour were introduced. We kept focusing on the sentences asking and answering about “what is the time now?” and “Now is xx点xx分.” More oral and paper practice were applied in class to improve the fluency and intonation both verbally and in written form. At the meantime, the students were also required to recognise the characters which were followed by the correct stroke order. Please refer to the link for the flashcards containing vocabulary words and key grammar structure.

In computing this week, students have been developing their understanding of algorithms and logic. They have been visiting the Code.org website to manage and track their progress. Students will be working on Skoolbo over the next few weeks to work on their maths skills.

Physical Education

In PE lessons this week pupils have been linking skills learnt into mini football tournaments. Classes who are currently on double PE have put skills learnt into small volleyball games for their final week. Classes undertaking swimming have continued practising diving from our new diving blocks in 25m freestyle.

This week we learned how chords in root position can be inverted as 1st inversion chords to broaden the harmony. We also looked at exploring creative methods of manipulating a melodic phrase, such as in Blue Monk, using accents, rhythms, articulation and tempi.

Design & Technology

This week in Design and Technology the children are exploring their creativity with the hook parts they have made. The children are pleased with the parts they have made and within groups are being encouraged to fit the parts together in a wide variety of ways.
