26th August 2016

In English this week we have been recapping the children's previously learnt skills by writing a diary entry about the school holidays. The children discussed what they got up to and planned their ideas carefully before writing their first piece. It was great to see their writing skills and to hear in detail what exciting things they did over the summer break.

In Maths this week we have been recapping the children's previously learnt skills by completing both mental and written maths challenges. It was a great opportunity to see what the children had learnt last year.

Project Work

We have started our project work by looking at the 'personal goal' we would like to have achieved by the end of the year. We will work on these goals throughout the year. We looked at the different personal goals, what each one meant and how we could apply them to our own work. We also did a few brain teasers and puzzles to get ready for our new topic 'Brainwaves'.

This week, the students have engaged in the Mandarin revision programme. They have revised what they have learnt last term. Please refer to the link below to revise all the learnt vocabularies.

Computing lessons will start next week.

Physical Education

In PE lessons this week pupils have been shown and undertaken the cross country course that will be used during the cross country unit. In swimming, children have enjoyed swimming lengths after the summer break.

Students were set an aural challenge in order to gauge their prior keyboard skills and aural awareness. Part of the challenge was to explore ways in which primary triads can be played in a number of ways on the keyboard. This was then linked to an aural memory activity that required students to perform the 'Star Wars' theme, in which only the first seven notes of the melody was provided, then accompany themselves using the triads that they had explored.

Design & Technology

This week's lesson centred upon learning about safety within the workshop and what Design and Technology are all about. Over this year, students will have an opportunity to gain experience in identifying design opportunities and working toward feasible solutions made from timber. By empowering students to be able to competently manipulate their physical environment, Design and Technology prepare students to be active participants in a rapidly changing and product-driven society.

Homework will start on the 2nd September.
