    DCIS Proms 2016

This week, the children reviewed what they had previously learned about figurative language features. They then looked more closely at personification and how it had effectively been used within a range of poems.


This week the children have been revising for assessment week; they have practised their previously learnt skills by completing a range of past paper questions.

Project Work

In the final week of Mission to Mars, the children have looked at the different roles, jobs and responsibilities that would be essential for their mission. They have looked at the different skills and qualities they contribute in school and at home. The children have found out about the Outer Space Treaty, the reasons why it may one day be necessary to leave Earth and how we can look after our planet.


This week, the students had a review about daily routine topic and used the learnt transportation and daily routine words to make the extended sentence: 我/家庭成员+每天+时间+动词+交通工具+日常生活。(I/Family member + go and do + daily routine + by + transportation + every day.) They also learned another sentence structure: 你每天+动词+交通工具+去+日常活动的地方吗? (Do you go + place + by + transportation?).


In this code.org lesson pupils will understand the difference between an algorithm and a program and begin course 2 on the code.org website to continue learning about computational thinking.  Concepts and skills are revisited in each course while delving deeper each time.

Physical Education

During our last tennis lesson of the half-term, the class competed in a ladder style, doubles partner tournament trying to win games as a pair.  In dodgeball the class have worked on putting their dodgeball skills into a variety of matches to end the unit.


Using the notation of each student’s original melodies, students were assessed on their ability use notation to effectively communicate a melody and accompaniment. Students were required to use the rhythms of Mendelssohn learned in class and perform these at a consistent tempo.

Design & Technology

This week in Design and Technology, the children continued to learn about robotics and collaborative problem-solving. They needed to calculate distances and robot wheel rotations in order to solve the challenge. They then programmed their robot to test their proposed solution.
