Dear DCIS Families,

What a wonderful evening we had at campus on Saturday! The DCA Family Picnic was a great success. Kudos to all the parents who helped to host, and those attended, the event.

We sent the DCIS August / September 2016 Newsletter to families last week. All the articles are available to read on our School Blog and click DCIS August / September 2016 Newsletterto view a digital version. Please also note that further details on weekly events and student achievements are also highlighted on the DCIS school bloghomepage, and on Facebook

We are clearly incredibly proud of our students for their recent IGCSE results. The DCIS IGCSE Results Blog has further details, but to have our relatively small Secondary School attain the highest marks in Singapore for Physics, Mathematics and Geography is something we are especially proud to announce.

Sports News

Over the weekend we also had some sporting success at the first cross country meet of the season. The meet took place in Pasir Ris on Friday afternoon and comprised of both boys and girls running 5km in a combined U16/U19 race, featuring over 50 competitors per race from 9 schools. We are delighted that Indira in Year 10 won the combined girls race with a phenomenal time of 19.09mins - more than 2 minutes ahead of the 2nd place competitor.

In the boys race, all finished in under 30 mins:

Luca  – 23.02

Oscar  – 25.54

Takuma – 25.55

Zihan – 29.02

Please congratulate all when you see them and read about the event on the DCIS Cross Country Success School Blog.

Ms Goode would also like to announce that the Mission Foods Nations Netball Cup 2016 is currently on from Sunday, 4th September to Saturday, 10th September. Relatively inexpensive tickets are available for games between Singapore, Ireland, P N Guinea, Canada, Zambia and Botswana. DCA Workshops and Coffee Mornings

Last week, the DCA Class Representatives met together and should be in contact with our families soon to create contact lists for classes and help to pass information from our DCA Parent Association. Please note that we do have school social media guidelines for parents at DCIS which are attached below. If you should have any questions, please do contact newsletters@dovercourt.edu.sg

In the week ahead, we have a number of parent events. Today we hosted our first Nursery Parent Coffee Morning and thank you to all who attended. We have changed the venue for the Reception coffee morning tomorrow at 8.45am to the main cafeteria, and are looking forward to meeting Reception parents tomorrow.

On Wednesday, the DCA has arranged for the DCIS Educational Psychologist, Vivienne Scott, to repeat her transitions workshop from last year. New and returning families will be able to learn more about:

·        Relocating and the impact of transition

·        Parents’ own support needs and capacity to respond to their children

·        How children’s behaviour should be recognised as a means of communication

·        The importance of structure and routine

·        Parents role modelling positive skills
