Fatima has always been fascinated by the medical sciences. Speech and language therapy combined her love for language and clinical curiosity, so she moved to London and completed a postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy, at City University London. While working as a speech and language therapist, she completed her Masters of Science in Speech and Language Therapy, with a research project dedicated to the prevalence and management of language difficulties in a multilingual London borough with a high index of deprivation.
Fatima worked for the NHS in a busy East London borough, where she developed her clinical skills amongst a dedicated team working with children with a variety of communication needs, in clinics, nurseries and schools. It was a challenging and large caseload that taught her to act fast on her feet, be creative and flexible.
When she moved to Singapore, she was keen to contribute towards the development of her profession here. Working at Dover Court has allowed her to continue to provide an ethical and evidence based service and to be part of an inclusive, nurturing framework that values every single child and strives to help each and every one of them reach their full academic, social and emotional potential.
Fatima is committed to provide an ethical service that is rooted in clinical excellence. Thus, she is a fully registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK, the Allied Health Professions Council in Singapore, as well as a member of the Speech and Hearing Association of Singapore (SHAS). She is passionate about student and peer supervision, and of taking full advantage of training opportunities, as she believes in sharing experiences in a positive, caring manner in order to further improve the speech and language therapy community at large. She is also currently busy co-editing a newsletter published by SHAS.
Fatima's life has been filled with incredible opportunities to travel and photograph wonderful landscapes and people, two of my favourite hobbies. She will often be found planning her next trip and the opportunities to wander around with a camera. She is also passionate about empowering children and their families, especially families who may not have access to the services children need in order to develop their communication skills.
Through volunteering trips, Fatima helps educate parents and other professionals so that they can help their children play, communicate and learn more effectively, in order to help them attain a brighter future.
