Staff Profile: Helen McCann

Helen McCann

Secondary School Drama Teacher

Helen holds a BA Hons in Performing Arts with a Drama specialism, gained from the University of Middlesex, North London.  Having worked in the theatre and film industry for 4 years, she went on to complete her PGCE in Drama Education.

Helen is an enthusiastic and accomplished Drama teacher with over thirteen years of experience in her field. She thoroughly enjoys the teaching, motivating and directing of students whilst maintaining their high interest and achievement.

Helen's teaching career started in London where she worked for 6 years, undertaking the role of Head of Department of a large secondary school. On leaving London to start a family, Helen worked in a variety of schools as a mainstream teacher, as well as a freelance drama specialist.

She was attracted to Dover Court International School by its recognition of the potential in each and every child. She strived to maximise this potential through the sense of achievement which drama can provide. The valuable skills which are harnessed through Helen's teaching style and the teaching of drama include independence, communication, confidence, teamwork, performance and leadership. A challenger of students' perceptions about the world they live in and about themselves, Helen uses dramatic exploration to provide students with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express.

She enjoys family time with her two children aged 8 and 6, and walking her very energetic Labrador dog.
