Staff Profile: Carmen Wong

Carmen Wong

Mandarin Teacher

Carmen obtained a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and a Bachelor degree in Linguistics at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (U.S.A.). She also achieved a Bachelor degree in Chinese Language and Literature at SIM University of Singapore.

Carmen has had opportunities teaching children aged 3-12 of different nationalities at Dover Court Preparatory School. Because of her bilingualism and teaching experience in ESL, the school offered her a job to teach Chinese as a foreign language to Nursery-Year 6 students. Some years later, Carmen realized new challenges would be beneficial for her personal development.

Carmen believes that each student has a talent and it is the teacher’s job to bring it out from within. The teacher is a facilitator who creates a conducive environment for her students to learn and shine. Carmen does planning in a way to ensure all abilities are included and engaged. Every student is a risk taker in her lesson. She also believes regular assessment and self-reflection would help the students have a clear picture of their progress.

Carmen is delighted to return to Dover Court International School and to share her knowledge in Chinese language and culture with her students.
