Mr Anthony Rowlands Weekly Update 13.11.2015

As I mentioned last week Mr Short, Ms Hill and myself attended the FOBISIA SLT Senior Managers Conference hosted by Tanglin Trust School Singapore. It was a very positive and productive event where we were able to meet fellow professionals from FOBISIA schools. I was also able to give a presentation about BIS Hanoi at the Heads Business Meeting held last Monday.

The highlight of the conference for me was a presentation by Mr Robert Swan O.B.E. Robert, during a wonderful presentation, told us his amazing life story. He is a polar explorer, environmentalist and the first man ever to walk unsupported to both the North and South Poles. It was a fascinating presentation which was well received by a captivated audience. His contribution to education and the environment have been recognized through his appointment as UN Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, a Visiting Professorship of the School of Environment at Leeds University and in 1994 he became Special Envoy to the Director General of UNESCO. He is an outstanding environmentalist where sustainability and protecting our planet are foremost in his thoughts and actions. We hope that in the future, BIS Hanoi will be able to link up with him and his wonderful projects. He has created a project called 2041 and information can be found at

Over the next few days we are hosting some great events. Tomorrow (Saturday) a large number of Hanoi schools will be at BIS to participate in a Basketball Tournament. I am sure that it will be a great event and I am grateful to our wonderful staff for the hard work they have undertaken to host all these schools.

On Wednesday of next week the Secondary School will be involved in an event called “Dragon’s Den”. It promises to be a great day of wonderful activities for our students. More on the “Dragon’s Den” next week!
