Ms Karen Hanratty Weekly Update 19th June

What a busy week it has been in the Primary school!  There have been so many exciting things going on I hardly know where to start.

Every year group is now reaching the end of their topic and so have been having a series of ‘Exit Points’, activities that round off the topic in an exciting way.  For example, Year 1 was visited on Tuesday by the Luy Lau Water Puppets to give children a close up experience of both seeing and using the puppets to close their topic of ‘Toys’.  Year 5 have had some wonderful visits from children’s family members, who were involved in some way in the Vietnam War, recounting some of their experiences from that time.  Year 2 is busy preparing for their exhibition of children’s work next week.  These are just a few examples of the wonderful things going on at present.

BIS Hanoi Primary

On Thursday we held Maths Day, when all children from F1 to Year 6 were shocked to see and hear the news that Mr. Rowlands car had been vandalized!  The children spent much of the day trying to solve the clues that would lead to the identity of the vandal – can you believe, I was a suspect?!  You can read more about this in the

Primary Maths Day

news.

Today we have enjoyed the

Primary Summer Music Concert

, which was a wonderful celebration of children’s musical learning and ability.  Children from Year 1 to Year 6 showcased their talents on a wide range of instruments either individually, in duets or groups.  The Primary Orchestra played its world premiere and the Primary choir and instrumentalist group also made its debut on the Auditorium stage.  A particular highlight was the joint Year 6 and 7 choir who sang together, bridging the gap between Primary and Secondary.

It was as ever a great pleasure to welcome parents to school this week for meetings with teachers following the end of year reports that were sent home last Friday.  Feedback from parents that I spoke to was very positive about their child’s experiences this year and the progress that has been made.
