Mr Christopher Short Weekly Update 28th August

It was brilliant to welcome students back to school and, of course, to see so many new students. We have had a very exciting time over the summer holiday and, with thanks to our admin and support team, the Secondary section looks fantastic in its new and existing areas. As Mr Rowlands said last term, we have 5 new classrooms, 1 new Science laboratory and a much improved Student Kitchen. We have also taken the opportunity to add more quotes and inspirational messages around the Section. We have three new Heads of Year who introduce themselves elsewhere on the HUB. Mr Byrne and Ms Witton move into new roles across their existing Key Stages and the Whole Section.

On Tuesday 11 August our examination results were published. These were our first full set of IGCSE and AS level results and we were extremely pleased with the grades the students received. Almost 50% of our grades at IGCSE were A* or A with 89% being A*-C. Six of our students achieved all A* or A grades, a phenomenal achievement.

We were similarly pleased with our AS results. There is no A* grade at AS but 22% of grades were A and 63% achieved A-C. 97% of grades were a pass. Three students achieved the perfect 4 A grades and will be looking at applications to some of the most selective universities around the World.

All our Year 13 students now have the basis of some excellent results to get them into university next year. Mr Byrne is working hard with the Year Group and tutors to support this process. We have 16 universities visiting us before half term including

John Hopkins

, the

University of British Columbia

Macquarie University

in Sydney. Students therefore have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of university representatives to supplement their own online and direct research.

We are now a full Year 7 -13 Section, we are using all three floors of the school and we have our first graduation in June next year. As you can imagine, we are all very excited as we guide our first graduating cohort on to higher education in some of the finest universities around the World.
