As we come towards the end of our first half term, we have started to look towards the future. This week the school was buzzing with forward planning. The secondary senior leadership team were working on a strategic plan that will improve assessment throughout the school. Mr Rowlands and Mr Williams began work on identifying our needs for next year’s curriculum and the older students were challenged by a series of speakers to think beyond Hanoi and consider possible university destinations.
On Wednesday the British Universities Fair arrived at the school. We had over 20 representatives of Britain’s top universities giving excellent guidance to our students. During the same event, About Eleanor Laing, Deputy Speaker of the UK House of Commons, spoke eloquently about the role that our children will play in leading a global society. Finally, the highly informative day was rounded off with a very entertaining presentation by our superb Guidance Counselor, Lori Fairbairn. Lori has a wealth of experience in the university application process and she is going to be a wonderful source of guidance for all our students. It was clear from her presentation, which included a focus on preparing for university by learning how to cook, budget and manage your wellbeing, that Lori will provide a unique level of support to all of our children, as they progress into higher education.
At the end of the week, we were visited by Paul Murphy from Juilliard. He inspired us all with his vision of how our creative partnership with Juilliard is going to benefit our children. They are not only going to experience a deeper relationship with music and the creative arts but they are also going to learn how to be more comfortable with risk, challenge and problem solving. In an increasingly complex world, where the future is unknown, such skills will be invaluable.
After such a busy week, I am going to relax by reading a good book. Our book week has inspired me but that’s another story...you can read about it in Charlotte Evan’s hub piece!
