  • International Week Secondary 2

Mr Lovatt (new Science teacher) led the students in a superb secondary assembly celebrating international week. The assembly began with a Year 12 performance of the Cumbia, a traditional Colombian dance. We then enjoyed connecting with our friends across the world, as we watched 3 videos exploring life in Spain, Mexico and Malaysia. Each video was produced by the former students of our current teaching faculty. Finally, Mr Lovatt challenged our students to make a difference to their international environment by seeking solutions to global problems. The dumping of plastic in Asia; gun control in the Americas; gender inequality in Europe and the clean water shortage in Africa are the problems with which our children wrestled.

Earlier in the week, secondary students impressed Mrs Andrea Leadsom, the UK Secretary of State, with their compassion and drive. Together they discussed animal welfare in the region and shared with Mrs Leadsom their projects in this field.

Sporting Success

The under 15 FOBISIA squad returned on Tuesday from Nepal with a haul of memories and some medals, too! Closer to home, the girls’ varsity basketball team recorded their first victory of the season against St Paul’s. Tonight, the Varsity boys seek their first victory when they play our sister school, BVIS.

Photos and Progress Check Tests

From Monday the Year 11 and Year 13 students will be taking internal tests to measure their progress in IGCSE and A level courses. We wish the students luck.

The secondary students will be having their photographs taken on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. It is very important that children look their smartest in the school uniform. Also, team players must bring their BIS uniform in for the team photos which are also scheduled next week.

And finally…

“It is impossible not to be happy at this school. The students are so great.” The words of one of our new teachers speaking about life at BIS.

Tim Webb, Head of Secondary
