Dear Parents,

This week has been filled with community events which have given us chance to get to know our BIS communities even better. Every day, the Parents Meeting Room has been a hub for those working with the school to prepare for our forthcoming International Week. Teams of volunteers have presented some amazing plans for decoration and activities to do during the Friday of International Week. Other parents are also working closely with teachers to plan for classroom activities which promise to bring learning alive for our children. Don’t forget, International Week is scheduled for week commencing 14th November and will end on Saturday 19th with a fun-filled International Festival. Children from all year groups will be involved in the performances on the Saturday so we would love to see as many parents there as possible.

In addition to our parent communities, this week has given us chance to strengthen our link with our community partners further afield.  A few weeks ago, I published a short report on our first visit this year from Nguyen Dinh Chieu, a local school for the blind. This week, it was the turn of Ms. Hughes and her Year 2 children to welcome another group of pupils from Nguyen Dinh Chieu. The care shown by our BIS children was truly heart-warming as they lead our new friends to their first activity. Whilst some children were natural at working alongside our community partners, others were initially nervous at making connections. It was lovely to see that, by the end of the session, friendships had been formed and laughter was heard as groups found common ground.

Last week, children brought in generous donations which will all go to one of our community partners, Hy Vong School for the Deaf. I am very pleased to give the wonderful news that 13,267,000 VND was collected. Students from Hy Vong visited our campus for the first of 6 visits on Wednesday. Our students, from Year 6, greeted their guests with respect and enjoyed a carousel of physical activities in the auditorium. It was great to be able to learn some sign language from our visitors and we look forward to welcoming further Hy Vong students next week.

I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday at the annual BBGV Fun Run which will be held at the Eco Park. The race is due to start at 10 am however we would love to see all BIS families gathered for a team photo at 9:45 am. Look out for the BIS Banners!
