EAL (English Additional Language)

  • English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At the British International School, all lessons are taught in English and we expect all children to have a reasonable standard of English when they join the school.  However, we do offer support to those children for whom English is not their first language.

In Primary, parents of children requiring this help will be consulted but if the school decides that a child needs this extra help, then it will be compulsory. This need is continually assessed and may be reduced during the school year.

In Secondary, EAL support is also offered to students and is ongoing until the students are able to work independently in the mainstream classes. Individual or small group tuition is provided as necessary, primarily on a withdrawal basis, but also by means of in-class support.
