Performing Arts at the British International School Hanoi

The Performing Arts Department organises an annual showcase of talent at our school. This gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in any aspect of performing arts and to gain valuable experience in performing for a live audience - for example, students learning musical instruments are given the opportunity to perform in front of other students to build their confidence and skills.

Performing at the Primary school level

Performance is an important part of Primary school life. Through performing in a range of different situations, children develop greater self-confidence, self-awareness and poise.

At BIS Hanoi, children are given a range of performance opportunities through the day-to-day curriculum in class, including role play, drama, and presentation. They also get to participate in assembly performances, musical presentations and competitions, festivals and celebrations and whole-school or key stage productions.

Our extracurricular activities programme also offers a varied range of musical options such as primary choirs, a guitar band and an extensive peripatetic music teaching programme.

Secondary school performances

For our secondary students, a school production takes place every second year (in rotation with the primary school group); this is normally held during Term 2.

The production combines drama and music, allowing musicians and actors to collaborate on a whole-school performance project. There are also opportunities for students to take part in the backstage work and become technical crew members, giving them experience of what it is like to work behind the scenes.

Auditions are open to students from Year 7-13 and we aim to create dramatic and engaging performances that develop our students’ creativity as well as provide them with an opportunity to collaborate and form friendships across the year groups. School production rehearsals make up part of the extracurricular activities options, therefore interested secondary school students should refer to the activities booklets for more information.
