Reception Teacher

From a very early age I knew I wanted to become a teacher, so as soon as I completed my A Levels, I left my hometown in Warwickshire to study a BA (Hons) Primary Education degree in Bristol. After graduating, my first teaching job was in a Year 1 class in an inner city school where I also had responsibility for Religious Education. In the following years at this school, I taught in Year 2 and gained the position of Key Stage One Phase Leader. I was also responsible for PSHE, fundraising and I led the School Council in achieving many changes for the school.

BISW is a unique school in that it has a special community feel as it brings together a variety of cultures and nationalities. This allows staff and children to gain valuable experiences from one another and opportunities that provide learning outside of the classroom. In Year 1 we work very closely as a year group and enjoy taking our learning from inside the classroom to the wider environment. This includes regularly walking in the woods, outdoor trips and inviting visitors in.

I look forward to travelling whilst here in the U.S. and I would love to visit as many states as possible! I also enjoy swimming and socialising. At the weekends, I like to catch up with friends and family back home and share my stories of my experiences here. I enjoy shopping and can confess that I often buy children’s literature for my classes – I have several large boxes of picture books at home from a wide selection of authors!

Instantly, BISW creates a sense of family at the heart of all learning which enables children to thrive academically, personally and socially.
