Tom Ball

Tom Ball

Head of World Languages

I studied languages at UEA (University of East Anglia) in England and then worked abroad as a wine merchant in Japan, France and Spain before returning to the UK to train as a teacher at King’s College London and in Madrid. Since 2008 I have worked in schools in Central London, most recently as Head of Languages at Pimlico Academy in Westminster.

My interests include travelling, gastronomy and reading. I have lived in Papua New Guinea, Japan and in various parts of Europe as well as visiting a wide range of countries from Guatemala and Brazil to India and Thailand. I love to eat well in good company and read contemporary literature. My favourite books are All the Pretty Horses by Cormac MacCarthy and L’Etranger by Albert Camus.

My students say:

“His lessons are engaging because we always exercise all four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.”

“Mr Ball is an enthusiastic, firm but friendly teacher who is always there to help.”

BISW is different because of the wonderful pupils. I have never met such a polite, courteous and enthusiastic group of people and am delighted to have this opportunity to work with them.
