A Night at the Museum

Today Year 6 transformed into an amazing array of famous people from the past and present. There were princes and princesses, historical figures, famous scientists, political icons and a whole host of well-known celebrities.

A Night at the Museum, just as in the movie, saw these famous characters come to life not after dark, but with a donation to charity.

This term students have been learning all about biographies and autobiographies. Having studied what makes a great biography or autobiography, they each were asked to choose a famous person and write a biography about them. From the biography they developed a speech, and finally the monologues that they presented today.

The students really drove this project themselves and took responsibility for their research, monologues and accompanying accessories. All the Year 6 teachers are incredibly impressed with the hard work that the students have put into their work.

Highlights included a number of famous duos, from Mona Lisa and Leonardo Da Vinci – their costumes were fantastic - to Coco Channel interviewing Cleopatra. Certainly one for the history books!

Some students went over and above with their costumes and props. Farah as Henry Moore, Mason as Ole Kirk Christiansen (the founder of LEGO) and Alejandro as Blackbeard looked incredible and drew in big crowds.

Other students delivered perfect speeches, which included huge amounts of detail, such as Isabella as Pocahontas and Jocelyn as Florence Nightingale. Year 6 teachers were particularly impressed by the English as an Additional Language students who delivered their speeches with confidence and accuracy. It was fantastic to see how much progress they have made since the start of the year.

Although this is the first time an event like this has taken place at the school, I am sure it is the first of many living wax work museums!
