Year 4 Curriculum News Test

Information & Reminders

It would be lovely to see you all at our Meet and Greet evening on Tuesday 1st September between 5-8pm where we will be giving you more information about Year 4 and the year ahead. 
The Year 4 presentation will be held from 6:45 – 7:15pm.
 
PE will be on Monday Period 3 and Friday Period 6 next week where the different classes are focusing on different sports.  Year 4A will be swimming so please ensure that they bring their swimsuit, swim hat, goggles and a towel to their lessons.  Year 4B and 4C will be focusing on football and basketball.  Please make sure that they have a hat and a water bottle for this lesson.
 
A reminder that next week we are not in school on Thursday and Friday.
 
English
Next week in English, we will be focusing on grammar, sentence construction and editing.  Looking at different examples of text we will be looking at the different parts of speech and identifying when they should be used.  We will also be focusing on building descriptive sentences from picture prompts.  The focus of editing will be to learn what the different editing symbols mean and how to use them in our own writing.  We will also be learning how to give and take constructive feedback to help develop our writing.
 
Mathematics
We will be working in our classes for Maths again next week and continuing our work on Number Sense. This week we focused on reading and writing numbers to 1,000. We also looked at partitioning numbers. Next week the children will be working collaboratively to order numbers.  Extending our learning from this week, they will then focus on counting in multiples.  Finally we will apply our number knowledge to a variety of different word problems.  When we return from the National Holiday long weekend we will set the students according to ability.
 
Topic

In Topic next week we will continue to develop our understanding of what learning is, and how we can develop our own personal learning. We have created our own definitions for the Personal Learning Goals of resilience, adaptability, cooperation, respect, enquiry, international mindedness, morality, thoughtfulness and communication; and continue to discuss how this can aid our learning.  

We will be hearing about how different adults in our school develop skills. We will be considering all the different ways we can develop strategies to help us when we are feeling stuck.

As artists and scientists, we will be talking about how the brain works and how neurons communicate with each other. We will create our own representations of how the brain works, in a collaborative art project.


When we return from the national holiday, we will be beginning our journey into the study of Chocolate!
