Year 9 News - 29 January

A chilly start to the week has seen all our students wrapping up to brave the freezing conditions. This hasn’t stopped our Year 9 students from working away like busy little bees. At the weekend, two of our students went along to the Art Exhibition at The Hub shopping centre in Minhang where their art work was being displayed as part of the My City exhibition. After being voted into the top 50 from 450 entrants, Neha Adinamozhi and Valerie Lau and their family attended the exhibition. It was a proud moment as they accepted their certificates from the judging panel.

Meanwhile in the sporting world, four Year 9 students have been selected to represent the school at the forthcoming FOBISIA Games to be held in Hong Kong in March. We wish Julian Francois, Alistair Wong, Victoria Deschamps and Amelia Haynes luck in their training and at the games themselves.

During Guidance lessons the students have been exploring the topic of Healthy Eating and understanding the importance of a healthy balanced diet. Maybe at home as a family, you could discuss the food you eat and encourage the students to get involved in helping to prepare food for the family. This is an important skill for young adults to learn as one day in the not too distant future they will be standing on their own two feet in a kitchen of their own.

The students have also taken some time to review their most recent reports, analysing their results and reading the teachers comments and suggested areas for improvement. This will encourage the students to take control of their learning and continue to be ambitious learners.

This Sunday in preparation for the Chinese New Year celebrations NAIS Pudong is hosting its first ever Temple Fair. I hope to see many of you here on Sunday enjoying the festival atmosphere.

German

Miss Ford's German class are revising the future tense, which is the final part of what they need in order to write a really good postcard text in German. This will form the basis of their upcoming assessment in February, so they have lots of chance to practice now.

Science

Year 9 have been learning about the circulatory system. This particular lesson focused on the structure of the heart and provided a perfect opportunity to explore pigs hearts. The students were fascinated with the dissection and enjoyed experimenting with the different valves inside the heart.

D&T

The students have been engaged in an audio amplifier project.  They have been learning about electronic components and the design process.

English

Year 9 will be looking into Shakespeare's famous love story, Romeo and Juliet.  Apt enough for this year of Shakespeare celebration.

Dates for the Diary

31 Jan – Chinese Temple Fair, 11am – 3pm

5 Feb – Dress up day for Chinese New Year, and half term break starts (to 15 Feb)

15 Feb – return from half term break
