Message from Primary

Dear Parents,

It has been a great first week back after the holidays. The children have all returned to school refreshed and raring to go once more and have been continuing with their topics from before the holidays. This second half of the term is a long one – 10 weeks in total; and whilst I’m sure we will be looking forward to the break at the end of it, this stretch of time does really lend itself to some purposeful learning for our Early Years and Primary students. Our Year 6 students will soon be jetting off to Shaolin for their first Project Week experience and I know they are very excited about the prospect of a week away with their peers and participating in some worthy activities, as well as gaining an understanding of how other children’s lives are different to their own.

Several of our year groups will be taking day trips during this term, the first of which took place yesterday when Year 5 visited the Natural History Museum as part of their ‘Existing, Endangered, Extinct: Living Things’ topic. Year 3 will be taking a trip on the Maglev train in the next couple of weeks as part of their ‘Inventions that Changed the World’ topic and Year 4 will be visiting the Zotter Chocolate Factory for their ‘Chocolate’ topic. Reception will also be visiting the Natural History Museum as their topic is currently ‘The Land Before Time’ and as part of this topic they learn about Dinosaurs and fossils.

Towards the end of the term, we will be treated to performances from both our Early Years and Infants students who will get us all excited about the Christmas holidays. I know Year 1 and Year 2 are already beginning preparations for their show.

Aside from all the different activities, visits and performances that are coming up, our teaching staff will be encouraging all of our students to think about how they can achieve their very best in the weeks to come; and there was no better introduction to this than Class 6A’s assembly yesterday, where they discussed being ambitious. Many of you will know that across all Nord Anglia schools we have a ‘Be Ambitious’ philosophy. This is not a ‘one size fits all’ ambition, but rather is bespoke to every individual student who attends our school, since everyone has different targets they want to achieve and different ambitions in life. Yesterday we heard from our 6A students who wanted to improve upon their swimming times and represent our school at different events this year. We also heard from students who wanted to improve in areas of academics such as Maths and English. Each student had thought carefully about what their target was going to be, but also how they were going to achieve it and who might be able to support them with it. It really was very fitting for the start of the second half of the term and gave all of our students something to think about.

Over the coming weeks we will be asking students and staff from across the Early Years and Primary school what being ambitious means to them, and hopefully reporting back to our parents many success stories of those ambitions being achieved.

With best wishes,

Lisa Passante

Head of Primary
