Information and Reminders
Thank you to all of the parents who have found the time to come and read with our children in school. The classes are all very excited to meet you and show what they are capable of! If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact your child's class teacher and we can find a date which is suitable.
Next week we will be looking at different materials and their properties (wood, plastic, paper, fabric and metal). If you have any junk which you no longer need i.e. yoghurt pots, cereal boxes, drinks bottles, we would really appreciate if you could send them to us in school! We will be using them as part of our science investigation so the more we have, the better it will be.
STEAM Day – On Thursday, all of our students will be participating in STEAM Day. The children will come off timetable for the day and instead participate in three activities throughout the day, with their teachers, which will be STEAM based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths). We are keeping these activities a tightly guarded secret until next week, but we can promise that the children will have a very exciting day next Thursday.
Please note that due to the ACAMIS tournament taking place on Friday 28th October there will be no PE lessons for students.
Thursday 27th October – STEAM Activity day (all classes will come off their regular timetable for the day and have no specialist lessons)
Friday 28th October – Halloween dress up day
Monday 31st October – Friday 4th November - No CCAs
Saturday 5th November – Bonfire night
Wednesday 9th November – Primary workshop and coffee morning
Friday 11th November and Monday 14th November – School closed due to staff training
Stars of the Week
Year 1A – Eashan
Year 1B – Riley

Next week in English, we will be investigating a big problem at our circus. The big top tent has a rip and the circus has to be cancelled! The ringleader has requested our help and we will be using our phonic decoding and reading skills to decipher the clues and find the culprit (or culprits...).
As our investigation continues we will be writing about the person we think is responsible for the damage and trying to explain why we think that. To do this we will use the conjunctions 'and' and 'because' which the children are becoming more familiar with. We will revisit the circus language which we have been learning, if you would like to support your child with this please visit this website:
The focus in Maths next week will be on calculation. We will revisit number bonds to 10 and how to record each as a number sentence. Please visit this game to practice this skill at home:
We will also be learning about addition of two numbers. We will do this with practical objects and the children will record their calculations as number sentences. We will introduce new language, such as 'total' and 'sum' and explain to children when it is appropriate to use both. Please use this great game at home to support your child's learning:
Next week the children will be exploring materials in our science lessons. As part of our IPC learning, the children will learn how to carry out a simple investigation and they will be challenged to ask and answer simple scientific questions.
The children will be introduced to 6 different materials. We will explore the properties of each i.e. what makes wood wood and paper paper. We will also discuss and test which of the materials would be best for creating a waterproof patch for the circus tent. The children will use these materials to build a mini-circus tent and we will discover which one would be best to patch up the hole in the circus tent!
