English

Next week in English, we will continue to write our own non-chronological report, making sure we include the correct features, such as, heading, subheadings and paragraphs. The children will watch a selection of Wallace and Gromit invention clips and then practice note taking by using the app Popplet to record their brainstorm. They will choose their favourite invention and present all of their information in the form of a report, which will be on display in our museum.

In Guided Reading we will continue to focus on using the features of non-fiction texts to find information. The children will write the answers after reading to show if they understood what they read. You can continue this practice at home by asking your child questions when you have heard them read. They will also complete independent activities from their reading journal.

Maths

In Maths, our focus is geometric reasoning. The children will learn the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes, as well as using a ruler to accurately draw shapes using clues to help them. As well as this, the children will begin investigating 3D shapes in different orientations. This will involve looking around the school environment and identifying 3D shapes we can see used in daily life. Finally, the children will use their knowledge of the properties of 3D shapes to construct different shapes using a range of materials.

Topic

As Artists, the children will be researching different genres in art. They will discuss the similarities and differences between modern and traditional art and discuss their preferences. They will identify techniques used in different genres and write their opinions about different pieces that they see.

Following this, they will find out how technology has been depicted in art in the works of traditional artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci and also how it can be used to create modern works. The children will then choose whether they want to create a piece of traditional art, using techniques they have seen, or whether they would like to create a piece of modern art using technology such as iPads.

In Computing we will be continuing to use ‘Scratch’. Next week we will be learning how to create our own Sprite and giving it a set of instructions to follow.
