Principal's Message - 18th November

  • fobisia

As I write this newsletter, the space outside my office is filling with festive baskets, prepared for our annual Christmas Bazaar. These raffle baskets have been thoughtfully assembled by a team of helpers within the community group, with donations from parents across the primary to create the fabulous final results.  Please pop by and take a look -- early ticket sales start today. Final preparations are in place for the event, so mark the date in your diary (Sunday November 27th), spread the word to your friends and dig out those Santa hats to start the festive season with a little Christmas cheer.

Whilst our primary students in early years and Infants prepare for their annual performances and our choirs are in full rehearsal mode, there are still many events taking place on a non-Christmas theme.

At NAIS Pudong we really strive for our students to be academically ambitious, socially ambitious and personally ambitious. This week alone, we have celebrated the success of our students in all those areas. Yesterday, our Year 12 students and a collection of Year 11 received their IGCSE certificates which arrived in the post following their summer examinations. We heard from three students, Eric on how they created the platform for success; by being ambitious, listening to their many supporters, drawing on advice from staff and seizing the many opportunities for support presented to them.  Their confidence and natural ability to inspire and motivate an audience when speaking on the stage was truly rewarding to see and left us as professionals knowing that our future is in safe hands when these young men and women go forth and make their mark on the world.

Additionally this week, we host our first Model United Nations Conference, and I look forward to hearing the lively debates around the theme of Freedom. The conference has been truly student led; from the design of the logo to the logistical operations of the event. Along with a little support from Mr. Gichana and Mr. Lawrence in the Marketing team, the students initiating this conference have kept us on our toes ensuring we fulfill their requirements!

Alongside personal ambition in the classroom, we also must celebrate the great success of our U15 FOBISIA squad. Our team rose to the occasion in Manilla last week, bringing home trophies in basketball and football, proving they really have the tiger spirit. Tigers of all ages take to the pitch this weekend in various football tournaments. Once again the Under 13 teams are proving to be serious contenders on the Shanghai circuit as the standard of football across the school continues to improve. I would also like to make a special mention of our U14 boys team with an impressive 19-0 victory against Concordia this week. Additionally, our U19 Academy team plays their first game in the Youth League after weeks of floodlight training.

We’ve also had the opportunity to showcase our students fulfilling their social ambitions, as our Year 6 students shared reflections on their service work during project week. Also, our secondary students participated in the More Than Aware campaign, in their Friday afternoon assembly.  The facial hair on the "Movember Team" supporting the More Than Aware campaign is certainly sprouting, as the month of November progresses.
