Year 7 News - 4 March

It’s certainly been a busy few weeks in Year 7. With this term's assessments in full flow now, they are certainly the hot topic of conversation! I would like to take this opportunity to share how proud I am of Year 7. They have all been working really hard in Guidance in developing revision techniques and have shown real maturity in the preparation of these assessments. Soon, as students receive their results and feedback from teachers, you will be able to see how their hard work has paid off.

  • Student reporter Erik

Away from assessments, the FOBISIA Under 13 squad members from Year 7 (Samuel Passey, George Emery, Venkatram Vadlamani, Josephine Lonsdale, Madeline Lum and Ciara Wallace) have been busy practicing for their upcoming tournaments. Keep up the hard work boys and girls!

Next week sees the long-awaited performance of this year’s school production ‘Beauty and the Beast’. I know how many CCAs, lunch times and Saturday sessions have been spent preparing for this amazing event and I cannot wait to see Abe Zakhem, Jeongwoo Jack Lee and Warren Gichana perform. I hope to see you all there!

I am proud to announce the addition of ‘Student Reporter’ to our fortnightly newsletters to continue to share first hand experiences from the students’ eyes, all the fantastic work that happens in the classrooms and beyond. This week, Erik Arts from 7A gives us a detailed report from History with Mr. Siccardi.

Thank you to all of you who have attended the AREs this week. As always, it is great to see you all and update you on your child’s progress. If you were unable to attend or to book individual appointments with certain teachers, please feel free to contact your son or daughters teachers directly. They will gladly give you feedback via email or phone or arrange an alternative meeting time.

Lastly, we have had a few new families join our Year 7 family this month as many of you will know. A massive warm welcome to the Joseph and Camargo families, from all at NAIS Pudong.

Student Reporter

In History this week we have been learning about which countries were important in the Roman Empire and why. For example, Germany was important because the Romans could get slaves from there to build things like houses, and soap to clean themselves.

As well as learning new and exciting things we have also been refreshing our minds in preparation for the upcoming assessment. We have been revisiting the story of Romulus and Remus, about who saved them and who killed who. We have learnt about how roads were so important and how the Romans improved them so water would not stay on them, but would drain away. Inventions were very important in Roman times and we have found out lots about glass, money, aqueducts and toilets. We have also been focusing on Julius Caesar and how he grew in power because of his army.

It was really good to look back at all the things we have learnt about the Romans in preparation for the assessment but also fun because we have still been learning new things!

Maths

In Mr. Parrish’s class, Year 7 have been solving equations through trial and improvement.

Design and Technology

Year 7 classes have been busy getting to know the workshop in their Design and Technology lessons. They have been learning to use the pillar drill, scroll saw and chisels. It has been great to see the year group so engaged.

Art

Students have been continuing learning about Henry Moore and are now focusing on what makes something abstract.

Sodexo Lunch Card

As you know, in order for the students to purchase food in the Hub they must use a lunch card. It is essential that students use the correct system for purchasing food. Cash top-ups to the card can be made at the payment counter in the Hub. Students then hand their card to the Sodexo staff at the till to buy their food. They should hand in their card, not state their card number. Please could you support the school system by ensuring that every student has their own card available for use.
