Last School Days for Year 11 and 13 Students

There were hugs, tears and just a few good-natured pranks, as our Year 13 and Year 11 students finish formal classes before beginning their all-important IB and IGCSE examinations.

Thursday was a day of nostalgia for our Year 13 students who donned their old school uniforms, or in the case of some of the boys, the old school uniforms of their sisters or female friends, for their second-last day of school.

On Friday, Year 11 students’ academic achievements were celebrated at a special awards assembly which marked the end of their official school duties, with tutor awards also given for each form class. Congratulations to all of the students who received awards and recognition of the hard work they have put into their studies and school life this year. Of course, the Year 11s will be back at school in the last week of term for their Introduction to the IB.

The Year 13 final assembly on Friday was an opportunity for tutors and students to take a look back at their two years of IB study. The assembly began with the IB Choir conducted by Mr Bevan Graham, Head of the IB Academy.

It also saw an important handover, with this year’s student leaders announcing their successors. The 2016-17 student leaders are:

Arts and Culture – Aimee Burlamachi and Georgio Wu
Internationalism – Sammi Huang and I-Zac Lee
Service – Ashley Fung and Diether Arias
House and Sport – Jennifer Thornton and Sebastian Arguedas

Congratulations to next year’s student leaders!

Form Tutors spoke, rapped or recited poetry, recounting the highlights of the year and the unique personalities of their IB cohorts. They were, in turn, thanked (emotionally) by members of each tutor group.

With a long examination period about to commence, at both assemblies Principal Mrs Wallace expressed the feelings of all of the assembled parents and teachers saying, “We are all rooting for you. Don’t hesitate to call on us for support and know that we wish you the greatest success as you embark on this most important step in your academic career.”

Of this year’s IB cohort, she said, “I, and I know all of your families, are incredibly proud of you. Your maturity and camaraderie has impressed us all so much…I know as you get older we will hear great things from you.”

Of course, the students will all be back in school over the next couple of months, sitting their examinations and we wish them all the best of luck.
