Information and Reminders

Thank you to all parents who attended the Primary Sports Day. It was fantastic to see the children collaborating to earn points for their school house and to see parents supporting the event.

School Holiday - Monday 2nd May

The topic homework for the next two weeks involves using Scratch software. It is available for free at: https://scratch.mit.edu/. You do not need to install it or pay for any subscriptions. Take a look at the website with your child and if you are having any problems accessing it please let us know in advance so that we can help. The homework is due on Monday 9th May.

Star of the week:

3A: Maggie - for writing an excellent adventure story, using great vocabulary and capturing the readers interest

3B: Elena – for great writing recently in English lessons

3C: Stefano - for displaying a growth mind-set when faced with challenges

P.E Rotations 3rd May – 27th May

3A: Gym/Dance

3B: T-Ball

3C: Swimming

As the weather gets warmer, please remind children of the importance of staying safe in the sun. We encourage all children to wear a suitable sun hat at break times, and if you would like to apply sun cream before they arrive at school please feel free to do so.

English

The children have so far really enjoyed reading ‘The Magic School Bus: Electric Field Trip’ in class. Next week we will continue to read this text and learn about the many different types of electricity as well as how to be safe around electricity. The children will use the text to learn how to take notes, retrieving specific information and writing down only key facts related to a topic. They will then apply their understanding of organisational devices in non-fiction texts by writing a report about electrical circuits. They will also develop their understanding of how to use speech marks accurately in writing by writing an imaginary conversation between two characters in the book.

Our guided reading focus next week will be to develop our skills in reading further exception words, noting the unusual correspondences between spelling and sound, and where these occur in the word.

In spelling, the children will learn the rules and conventions for adding the suffix –ly to a word.

Maths

In Maths next week, our focus will change from additive reasoning to interpreting data. The children will develop their skills in interpreting and presenting data in bar charts, pictograms and tables. They will also have the opportunity to collect and compare data, before choosing the most appropriate way to represent their data. Following on from this, they will learn how to solve one and two step problems using information presented in scaled bar charts, pictograms and tables.

Topic

Next week, as scientists, the children will learn about the relationship between magnets and electricity. They will experiment with magnets to see what they can be used for, and go on to develop their knowledge about how magnets can be used to generate electricity. They will also learn about what is inside a lightbulb, how a lightbulb works and how we can use bulbs as sources of both heat and light. To finish the week, the children will continue to learn how to keep safe around electricity (linked to English).
