Letter from the Head of Primary - 19th May 2016

It was an early start for our primary FOBISIA team this morning as they headed off to Ho Chi Minh for the Primary FOBISIA Games. We have sent a team of 36 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 along with members of our PE department, Mr. Kalff and parent supporters to compete in what is always a super event, along with a variety of other internationals schools across Asia. We will be keeping in contact with them over the next few days to find out about their successes in both individual and team events.

Keeping on the sporting theme, our Year 4, 5 and 6 students have this week participated in the annual Fun Soccer Days held at SAS Pudong. All teams were very fortunate to have great weather for their visits and truly made the most of the team participation which is the focus of this event. Our teachers came back extremely proud of all the students who had taken part.

We also had some educational visits taking place this week for both Year 3 and Year 4. Earlier in the week, Year 3 went to the Science and Technology Museum as part of their electrical themed topic ‘Bright Sparks’, whilst Year 4 spent Wednesday morning at Metro Supermarket as part of their topic ‘What’s on the Menu’. Having the opportunity to go on educational visits really helps to bring a topic to life for our student and enables them to make connections in their learning, often seeing how it relates to real-life situations. In the case of the Year 4 visit, the students were given a glimpse into how food is imported from countries all over the world in order for us to purchase.

Not only have our students been learning beyond the classroom this week, but we have also been celebrating our learning back at school too! Year 1 hosted their exit point earlier this week in the Performing Arts Centre for their topic ‘Time Travellers’. Students proudly exhibited the work they had completed as part of their topic, which even included their very own movies! Parents were able to nibble on some popcorn in true cinema style whilst they enjoyed the Year 1 students’ work.

Tomorrow we celebrate the learning that has taken place in Nursery as they share their exit point with their parents on the completion of their topic ‘Minibeasts’. I can’t wait to find out what the children have learnt.

Last but not least, the Primary school have just come back to class after thoroughly enjoying Class 2C’s assembly which focused on what they have been learning in their topic about different buildings and structures. They presented to us work that they had completed in a range of different subjects, including some fantastic pieces of writing and artwork.

All in all, it has been a very busy week in the Primary school, with plenty more to come over the next few weeks.

Lisa Passante
Head of Primary
