Letter from the Head of Secondary - 10th June 2016

I was so proud to see our Secondary students and staff creating and manning stalls at last Saturday’s Summer Fun Day.  The games were a huge success with the younger children especially and showed the enormous creativity in the Secondary students and staff.

Although the Year 11 students are still sitting their IGCSEs, internal exams have now finished and the seemingly endless examination season is finally starting to come to an end.  The last IGCSE exam is on Friday 17 June, quickly followed that evening by the much anticipated Year 11 Celebration on the Bund.

Students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 are now back in lessons and getting feedback on their exams and assessments.  The end of year reports for all year groups are currently being written, proofed and finalized, but this is a lengthy process and they will not be ready for distribution until the last day of term.  However, students will be bringing their assessments home for parents to look at and sign, and as always, please do not hesitate to contact a teacher if there is anything arising from these that you would like to discuss. While we encourage every child to stay at school until the last day of term, if your family does need to leave early, we can send a scanned copy of reports to you in the first week of the holidays.  You can organise this by emailing Hanna Zhou at h-zhou@naispudong.com.

Year 12 don’t resume ‘normal’ lessons until Friday because they have spent the week involved in the Group 4 Project.  This is an interdisciplinary, collaborative project which provides an opportunity for students to explore and devise scientific solutions to problems.  Their project culminated with an exhibition on Wednesday, and it was great to see so many of their parents and friends there to admire their work.

On Tuesday we welcomed our Year 6, soon to be Year 7 students, into the Secondary school.  They spent the day experiencing a variety of specialist lessons – Art, Design Technology, Drama, Geography and Science – as well as having an assembly with their Year 7 counterparts who, being old hands at this transition game, were eager to offer advice and reassurance.  Speaking to some Year 6 students during the day, they described their experience as ‘awesome’, ‘very excited to use the machines in DT and do a science experiment with the Bunsen burners’ and ‘really good fun’ and all those I spoke to agreed they are looking forward to being part of the Secondary School from August.

Let’s hope for some more sunshine this weekend!
