English

This week in English, we will be continuing our focus on explanation writing. Students will be continuing to focus on using causal and time conjunctions in order to explain how something happens or works in a series of steps. Students have been looking at Rube Goldberg machines and using these as a stimulus for writing an explanation text. After rehearsing orally, they will be planning and writing an explanation of how these work. Towards the end of the week, students will be designing their own Incredible Machine which they will also write about.

Maths

In Maths next week we will be returning to statistics, in particular graphing of results. Students will have compiled the results from the Seed Planting experiments and will then be tasked to graph these. Students will interpret and present discrete and continuous data using appropriate graphical methods such as line graphs and bar graphs. In addition to this, students will be recapping some of the different skills we have covered this year to ensure that they are comfortable with them.

Topic

In Topic, we will be completing some of the work that we started last week as Historians and begin working as Technologists. Students will be researching the different types of machines that farmers use to help them. This will aid them in designing their own. In addition to this, students will be designing a logo for their restaurant. This will involve looking as several popular and familiar ones and finding out what makes them so easily recognisable. Students will also be looking how different religious denominations, nationalities and traditions can affect what potential customers could eat. In order to be able to cater to these different groups, some changes may need to be made to their restaurant menus.
