Year 3 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 3

  • A busy week in Year 3

Information and Reminders

  • IMPORTANT MESSAGE!!
On Monday we will be doing a large scale arts and craft project in Year 3 and we would be very very grateful if you could send your children in on Monday with any types of art and craft materials you have lying around your house. This could be things like cardboard boxes, empty drinks bottles, coloured paper or plastic, glitter, fabric (basically anything you can find). Thank you so much in advance!
  • Don’t forget to sign up to Class Dojo for important messages and updates on what your child has done in school.
  • Maths and English homework have been sent and must be completed by Monday 5th September.
  • We would really appreciate parents’ support in helping their child make healthy choices when choosing a snack to eat at breaktime. Please remember that children should not be sharing snacks as we have a number of children with food allergies. Thank you for your help with this.

3A – Sara Capelli for always being respectful and not giving up when she faces new challenges.

3B – Chloe Sun for neat work and always trying hard in lessons.

3C – Callum Lang for always putting in 100% effort to work and behaviour.

English

In English next week we will continue to use the text ‘Weslandia’ by Paul Fleischman to add suffixes to a root word. We will add adjectives and noun phrases to sentences and begin to think imaginatively to create our own invention. Using the text, we will plan and write our own story.

Maths

Each lesson will start with a mental maths activity to help the students practice quick recall of number facts and multiplication. Our main focus next week will continue to be on number. Specifically, we will be looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, solving problems in a practical way and explaining our understanding of this. We will be estimating numbers to 1000 using a number line. We will also be applying our skills in these areas to practical activities, such as measuring objects/items and placing them into order according to their size and solving real life problems related to numbers.

Topic

We are very excited to be starting our new topic of 'Inventions that changed the world'. We will complete a 'knowledge harvest' to work out what we already know about the topic and generate some questions we would like to find out throughout the course of the unit. We will then use a range of sources to research a selection of objects and prepare an exhibition of inventions from the last 100 years. We will be thinking about how and why the different items came to be created and sharing our findings as soon as they are finished.
