English

As part of our ongoing topic, 'The Circus is Coming to Town', the children will be exploring descriptive language. We will discuss and write about the sort of qualities a circus performer should have. Do we want brave clowns or funny sword swallowers? Do we want strong trapeze artists or daring fire breathers? We will also be exploring where different circus animals come from as part of our learning for International Week and we will discuss the similarities and differences between different circuses around the world.

If you have any experience of visiting a circus in another country and you would like to speak with the children about this, please let one of the class teachers know.

Maths

The focus in Maths next week will be 3D shape. The children will learn the differences between flat 2-dimensional shapes and 3-dimensional shapes which we can use and manipulate. The children will have many opportunities to sort, name and make these 3D shapes and we will use the 3D shapes we have learnt to build circus tents and performers. In our maths starters, we will revisit number bonds to 10 and missing numbers in a sequence.

Topic

Our new IPC topic has started with a bang and the children are very excited to see where our circus adventure will take us next! Next week, Ringleader Joe will send us instructions which will help us interview new performers for our circus. We will have visitors come to the class and the children will ask them questions to find out what they are like and what qualities they think a good circus performer should have. In Geography, we will be looking at our home countries and we will identify where different circus animals come from around the world. We will use atlases and Google Earth to support this learning in school.
