Next week in English, to complement our new IPC topic ‘The circus is coming to town,’ the children will write a recount about the Era circus visit. They will be encouraged to carefully sound out and spell words phonetically, form lower-case letters correctly, use full stops and capital letters and use conjunctions to join sentences and link ideas. Each child will create their own circus which they will label and then share with the rest of the class. They will also be shown how to write a list about what is needed for a circus to be great. During Phonics lessons the children will continue to recap and revisit phase two and three letter sounds.
The focus in Maths this week, will be Number. The children will be exploring how to identify one/two more and one/two less than a given number and represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20. They will solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems.
The focus for this week will be ‘Cooperation.’ We are very excited to begin our new topic ‘The Circus is coming to Town.’ The unit will begin with a performance from Shanghai Era Circus! The children will complete a knowledge harvest, exploring what they know about the circus and encourage them to consider what they would like to find out throughout the topic.
