NAIS Tiger Sharks Nanjing International School Swim Meet Report

The NAIS Tiger Sharks had a successful weekend in the pool with numerous personal bests and great team spirit at the Nanjing Invitational Meet. After a long journey on Friday evening, our swimmers were up at 5:30am on Saturday to eat a good breakfast before their warm up at 7am.

After warming up, students made themselves comfortable in the sports hall, playing games and talking while they waited for their races The first event was the freestyle relay and it was great to see such a strong start from our teams which was a great indicator of things to come.

The competition lasted until 7pm on Saturday evening and after a long day of swimming multiple events our youngest students were out on the pool deck to support our final swimmers of the day. Our senior boys Aaron, Rikki and MK did a great job in their 100 freestyle races which I’m sure had something to do with the younger swimmers shouting for them at the end of their lanes!

Sunday brought another early start followed by more great swims. It was a pleasure to see the dedication the students demonstrated towards their races as well as the support for each other. In addition, students were impeccably behaved and a real credit to NAIS Pudong. I look forward to seeing their progress over the rest of the season!

NAIS Tigers U19 Girls Basketball Team SISAC D2 Plate Tournament Report

The NAIS Tigers U19 Girls SISAC D2 Basketball team travelled to Singapore international school, Suzhou for their end-of-season cup tournament. It was a challenging day from the start due to travel and game duration, however, the girls handled it extremely well and showed sportsmanship throughout. They started slow in the first game against Livingston International School, a team we had previously not competed against. The game went basket for basket and unfortunately, even though we had more attempts to score, the other team pulled ahead in the last quarter. Determined to improve and come away with a deserved higher ranked finish, the girls showed fantastic defensive pressure in their second game; earning them the win. This continued into the last game however, the girls ran out of steam and finished 6th overall. Girls of the games were Victoria Deschamps, Sterre Gabrielse and Sofie Vesterbaek.

NAIS Tigers U19 Girls Basketball Team SISAC D1 Plate Tournament Report

The Pudong Tigers D1 Girls’ Basketball Team travelled to BISS Puxi for the plate tournament on Saturday. After a difficult season, the team trained intensively to improve their game.

The first matchup of the day was against Singapore International School, Suzhou. What a great start to the competition! The girls were on fire scoring basket after basket and eventually winning by an unbelievable score of 42-11.

Well done to Lovisa Lindquist who scored 22 of the 42 points. A couple of three-pointers from team captain Teigan Fisher-Stamp gave the squad confidence as they moved into the semifinals to play their rivals, SCIS Pudong.

Having narrowly lost to this SCIS Pudong in league play, the Pudong Tigers’ nerves were evident in the first 2 quarters. However, the Tiger spirit shone through and the team sealed a comfortable win with a score of 18-11.

The biggest test was yet to come, with back-to-back games going into the finals against last year’s runners-up, Nanjing International School. The team was exhausted and the score was evenly matched until the fourth quarter of play. Following an inspirational talk from captain Teigan, the Tigers’ spirit roared again. A comfortable lead was set, and the girls cruised to an easy win. This was a fantastic end to the season, with everyone on the team contributing to the victory. We of course missed Sofie and Isabel who were unable to play due to injury, but in all it was a team effort.

NAIS Pudong retained the title for the second year in a row, and everyone scored on the day! This effort provided excellent preparation for the ACAMIS competition in Hong Kong beginning tomorrow. The girls are certainly pumped and ready to continue their run of victories.

Well done to all the players and good luck to the girls in Hong Kong!
