An overview of the week ahead in Year 3

  • Active learning in Year 3

Information and Reminders

  • Please make sure all the children come to school in appropriate warm weather clothes - including hats and gloves.
  • Please make sure that ALL items of school uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled.
  • Reading challenge – You need to sign and date your child’s learning journal 3 times in one week after you have heard them read then they will receive a Dojo point. If children are not reading regularly at home then they will attend lunchtime reading club on a Friday. We hope for your support!
  • Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served. Weekly website links will be sent on Fridays. The homework this week is optional.
  • Please make sure you also let the class teacher know if your child’s end of day arrangements have been changed so there is no confusion.
  • Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.

English

Next week we will plan an argument. We will have to persuade people to drink more milk using persuasive language. We will also focus on letter writing, which must have compound sentences.  We will look at different adverts and identify their features in order to help us create our own persuasive advert for people to drink their milkshake.

In Guided Reading we will discuss words and phrases that capture the reader’s interest and imagination.

Maths

It will be our last week on ‘Calculations’. We will work on subtraction and addition. We will estimate the answer to a calculation. We will use inverse operations to check answers to a calculation. We will identify when addition or subtraction is needed as part of solving a problem and develop on from this by explaining why addition or subtraction is needed when solving a problem.

Topic

As part of our International task, we will continue to look at what countries milk is scarce in and the reasons why. Our main focus this week will be ‘Making Milkshakes’. We will have a parent demo to help the children create their own milkshakes which will be tested by Y4 children, the winner from each class will receive a special surprise. They will design and improve their recipe from the feedback they receive in order to make delicious milkshakes for the parents at our Exit Point on Thursday 16th February, 11am – 12pm. The children will design their own packaging for their milkshake to display.

Please let us know if your child has any dairy allergies or is lactose intolerant and we can find an alternative task for them.

Computing

We will use this lesson to link with our English work. The children will video each other presenting their persuasion argument to encourage more children to drink milk.
