Mock Results Are Out!

As I said in my last newsletter, I was extremely proud of the Year 11s for the mature and conscientious attitude they displayed to their mock exams, which took place between 9th-26th January. Yesterday the students were called into the Media Suite to be addressed by Ms Camargo, Deputy Head, before receiving their mock results and their exam timetables for the summer. There were many smiles and a few tears as students opened the envelopes containing these all-important results, which give a very encouraging picture for their future success. Now it is time to get their heads down and focus on developing their knowledge and understanding in order to be able to achieve to the best of their ability in their IGCSEs. I will be behind them every step of the way.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Before the Chinese New Year holiday, many events took place to celebrate this important festival, including our much-anticipated Chinese New Year Assembly on Friday 20th January. The students were entertained by a traditional Lion Dance, a quiz about New Year customs and traditions and some fantastic performances of Chinese songs. I would like to commend Sylvia Wintersperger, who, despite being in the middle of her mock exams, managed to find time to rehearse for a fantastic performance on the guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument which Sylvia has been playing for several years. She also repeated this performance at the Temple Fair on Sunday 22nd January, as you can see in the picture attached. Well done Sylvia on showing yourself to be a student of many talents!

NAIS Tigers U19 Girls Basketball Team: Year 11 Basketball Stars!

Mrs Parrish has provided this report:

The Pudong Tigers D1 Girls’ Basketball Team, including Year 11 students Isabel Burlamacchi, Sarah Thornton, Giulia Teobaldi and Lovisa Lindquist, travelled to BISS Puxi for the plate tournament on Saturday 14th January. After a difficult season, the team trained intensively to improve their game. The first matchup of the day was against Singapore International School, Suzhou. What a great start to the competition! The girls were on fire scoring basket after basket and eventually winning by an unbelievable score of 42-11. Well done to Lovisa, who scored 22 of the 42 points.

Having narrowly lost to this SCIS Pudong in league play, the Pudong Tigers’ nerves were evident in the first 2 quarters. However, the Tiger spirit shone through and the team sealed a comfortable win with a score of 18-11. The biggest test was yet to come, with back-to-back games going into the finals against last year’s runners-up, Nanjing International School. The team was exhausted and the score was evenly matched until the fourth quarter of play. Following an inspirational talk from captain Teigan, the Tigers’ spirit roared again. A comfortable lead was set, and the girls cruised to an easy win. This was a fantastic end to the season, with everyone on the team contributing to the victory. We of course missed Sofie and Isabel who were unable to play due to injury, but in all it was a team effort.NAIS Pudong retained the title for the second year in a row, and everyone scored on the day! This effort provided excellent preparation for the ACAMIS competition in Hong Kong beginning tomorrow. The girls are certainly pumped and ready to continue their run of victories.Well done to all the players and good luck to the girls in Hong Kong!

27th-30th March: School Production of Into the Woods

Tuesday 2nd May: IGCSE exams begin for Year 11 students

Friday 16th June: IGCSE exams end for Year 11 students

As I am sure you will agree, this newsletter demonstrates the continuing commitment of our Year 11 students to excel, not only academically, but in all aspects of school life. As the exam period approaches, please keep reminding your child of the importance of balance: of working hard but also getting plenty of exercise, plenty of sleep and eating well, as well as taking some time to relax and participate in extra-curricular activities. Of course this is a crucial time in your child’s academic future, but we must not forget the need to be personally and socially, as well as academically successful in order to become a happy and well-rounded individual.

Thank you for reading and for your continuing support of Year 11.

With best wishes,

Anna Whiteson, Year 11 Leader
