Information and Reminders
Just a kind reminder that we are a ‘Healthy School’ and we encourage all children to eat a range of healthy foods. Please support us with this and ensure any snacks or packed lunch items that are brought into school are of a healthy variety. Kindly refrain from sending in any sweets or chocolates for your child’s snack.
Sharing books with your child at home supports in developing language, imagination, phonological awareness, listening skills and most importantly a love for books! Children bring home a library book each week which they have chosen for you to read to them at home, perhaps as a bedtime story. Library books will be changed each week during the allocated Learning Centre slot, however you are free to visit the Learning Centre after school with your child and share other books.
Please can you ensure that you spend 5 minutes every day to sit and listen to your child read their school reading book. You can ask them some questions to develop their understanding of the text. Reading journals should have a comment or signed each day to indicate that your child has read. Reading journals are checked every day and books will be changed on a Thursday if they have been signed three times.
We would like to encourage all children to come into school wearing the correct school uniform. Winter uniform and sportswear is available to purchase from the uniform shop. Leggings, tights, jumpers and shoes should be plain and dark coloured. If you are unsure on the school uniform expectations please refer to the images at the front of your child’s learning journal or speak with your class teacher.
A number of personal items such as jumpers and cardigans have been misplaced in Reception recently. In order to minimise items getting lost please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.

Overview of Learning
This week the children have created story maps for the story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy and have orally retold the story using some of the language from the story. Next week we will continue with our learning around space with a fantasy approach. We are also going to look at the work of the artist Peter Thorpe and use his style and technique to inspire our own space pictures. Our maths focus for next week will require the children to apply their knowledge of number in order to solve simple additions using a range of practical resources.
