Message from Primary - 17th March

Dear Parents,

Another productive week here in our Early Years and Primary school! As well as our usual fun-filled days of learning, questioning, exploring, and investigating, many of our students also got to spend time with a famous author who visited our school. Sarah Brennan, who is known for her poetic stories of the Chinese zodiac animals ran workshops for our students from Year 2 to Year 5 throughout the day yesterday. A talented poet, Sarah explained the various forms of poetry to the students and read examples of her work to the children. In Year 5, Sarah and the students collaborated to write an acrostic poem about Mr Johnson and a Haiku about me, before writing a rhyming poem about school. If you would like to learn more about Sarah Brennan, please visit her website: http://www.sarah-brennan.com/. We will be welcoming another author, Neil Griffiths to our school on Tuesday 28th March, who will be working with students from Nursery to Year 6.

Also this week we held our monthly coffee mornings, which were, yet again, very well attended. Mr Scrymgeour began the day with our primary workshop on Relationship and Sex Education (RSE), and the importance of the partnership between parents and school on this issue. Mr Scrymgeour discussed updates to the PSHE curriculum and what we cover at school, as well as providing parents with a range of suggested resources to use at home.

Following this Mr Chaudhry and Miss Chilvers led an Early Years workshop on Maths through play and creative learning. Parents had the opportunity to have first-hand experience of the resources we use with the children in Early Years as well advice and tips on activities they could do at home with their children to engage them in mathematical learning and understanding.

These were the last two parent workshops for this term, but we will still have a few more before then end of term, so if you have any requests for a parent workshop you would like us to host, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mr Scrymgeour with your ideas.

On Thursday, Mrs Rao couldn’t believe her eyes. Instead of her Nursery children, a group of Superheroes arrived at school! Their dress up day, inspired by their class story Supertato, saw the children participate in a range of Superhero activities, including searching for the Evil Peas who were causing lots of mischief.

The whole school will be participating in our upcoming Shakespeare Dress-Up day next Friday. I can’t wait to see the range of imaginative costumes dreamed up by our creative students and parents. Earlier in the week I sent out information about Shakespeare Week in Early Years and Primary, with highlights including ‘Where’s Will?’, ‘Drop Everything and Read’ and our Shakespeare Assembly. Look out for daily updates on Class Dojo about how we are celebrating Shakespeare Week.

As if it couldn’t get any busier, we are also welcoming our school photographers next week, and from Monday to Thursday, each class will be having individual and class photographs taken. Your child’s class teacher will inform you via Class Dojo which day your child’s photos will take place. We would greatly appreciate all parents helping to ensure their child is dressed in the correct school uniform.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Head of Primary
