Stars of the Week

5A – Renee - for excellent participation in Shakespeare Week

5B – Julian – for superb effort with his homework this week

English

We will finish the term studying poetry. This will recap the session Year 5 had with author, Sarah Brennan, who discussed various forms of poetry. We will link our own poetry writing to our topic work, using specific landmarks or tourist attractions in Shanghai as our focus. We will also be visited by another author, Neil Griffiths. We look forward to finding out what we can learn from a professional author.

Spelling: we will revisit the Year 5 word list and check our understanding of different spelling rules we have covered throughout the term.

Maths

Next week in Maths we will be looking at using the children’s knowledge of calculating using the four operations within worded problems. The children will try to use formal methods of calculation for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication within real-life and multi-step problems.

Topic

Next week in topic, we will be looking at tourism within China. We will be making a tourist map of Shanghai, identifying places tourists would want to visit. At the end of the week, the children will investigate how places in China have changed over time. We will have a debate about whether or not tourism is good for China.
