Information and Reminders
Thank you to all parents who attended to support the students in their Exit Point. We know it can be inconvenient to fit a visit into your own schedule, but it really makes a difference for the children to see the interest from home in their learning, and be able to share their work with an adult audience. Our Exit Points so far have been exhibitions – our next invitation in the summer term will be a different event entirely, as the Year 6 students campaign for votes in the Election 2017. More details nearer the time.
This week, 6C were the winners of the primary challenge, by improving their conduct in class and around school, which has been noticed by a number of staff. All students are encouraged to look to chances to show good manners – holding doors, saying good morning, please and thank you, and displaying cooperation and politeness. Please reinforce this message at home by recognising when your child shows particularly kind manners during daily life.
Shakespeare Week is approaching, taking place the week beginning 20th March. On Friday 24th March, we will be having a Shakespeare Dress-Up Day, when students can dress up as a character from a Shakespeare play or Tudor dress.
During the week, each year group will be learning a particular Shakespeare play, which has been adapted for their understanding. The students will also take part in a range of different Shakespeare themed activities during the week.

6A – Sidarth Menon – for producing an excellent piece of work on expanded noun phrases in English
6B – Avnish Trehan – for working hard towards his personal goals
6C – Jana Baden – for showing maturity and manners to her peers while teaching maths
In English, we will look at another type of formal writing, which is the language of argument. Students will put forth their views in a formal manner on divisive issues which matter to them. We will also continue our links with Year 1 classes by reading with the younger children in the library. I know both sets of children are excited by this new opportunity. Guided reading will continue with our two texts ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. Our SPAG topic will be prepositions (e.g. above, below, through, outside, beyond).
In maths, we will revisit the area of algebra. Students will find all combinations of two variables that solve a missing number problem with two unknowns. They will also find pairs of numbers that satisfy an equation with two unknowns e.g. a + b = 15. We will revise the basic rules of algebraic notation, and express and solve missing number problems algebraically.
We will begin our Topic unit, ‘Fairgrounds’, based on the area of physics. Students will be learning about the forces which affect different rides, including gravity, air resistance, buoyancy, centripetal force, and friction. We will be studying actual rides to explore these concepts, as well as investigating these ideas in the physical world.
